Eyelid Surgery for Beginners

By Robert Jameson

Whenever we meet someone, whether or not it is for the first time then the first thing we do is look into their eyes. As the eyes are such attractive aspects of a persons face, it is not surprising that many people have cosmetic surgery on this area and it's especially true once a person is of mature years. No one doubts that bags under the eyes, droopy eyelids and laughter lines are not attractive but they can be treated with cosmetic eye procedures and make a person much more attractive.

It's true that most men and women get to a point when they consider cosmetic eyelid surgery. Candidates for cosmetic eyelid surgery want their appearance to better communicate their feelings of youth, energy, and vitality.

The correct term for eyelid surgery is Blepharoplasty and it is the re-shaping of the eyelid. A bi-product of having your eyes and eyelids attended to is that you will not only look younger and also appear to be full of energy.

A droopy eyelid is not necessarily a sign of age but can age you considerably, so carrying out a surgical procedure which tightens the muscle controlling the eyelid can correct this condition. Where the eyebrow needs attention, a brow lift pulls on the loose shin and helps to remove the bags and wrinkles found below the eye making the patient look younger and healthier.

A study of adults aged 51 to 64 found that eyelid surgery was their top consideration of all cosmetic surgeries and that it was a benefit to vision. A saggy upper eyelid skin, which is often a sign of age, can be caused by slackness in the upper eyelid. A surgical procedure carried out on the eyelid doesn't usually carry a scar because the skin is so thin. Although there is little chance of scarring on the eyelid, there is more than likely going to be swelling and bruising that starts to show very soon after surgery. Patients that have heavy and swollen eyelids normally have the excess fat and muscle layers removed at the same time.

To avoid eye or eyelid surgery, some consumers are showing a preference to collagen and other injected substances. Not all eyelid surgery is a success and in these cases to improve the definition around the eye and eyelid area, permanent makeup or Micro pigmentation treatment is used. This can also help visually correct the eye shape when they less are than ideal so the client can avoid additional expensive corrective surgery.

Eyelid procedures do not normally cause problems but there are points worth considering before any surgery takes place including the level of aftercare they will receive, do they bruise easily and heal quickly.
